Whiplash
IN
THE BLINK OF AN EYE You
could sustain a WHIPLASH INJURY

Any substantial blow to your body, whether from a car accident, contact sports, or an
accident at work, can cause whiplash or other neck injuries and warrants a thorough check-up.
Whiplash injuries can be so slight that at
first you don't even know you are injured.Even if you feel normal after an accident,
with no symptoms, you should be thoroughly examined.
Symptoms can be delayed for days, and in some cases, symptoms may not surface for years.
Worse, whiplash injuries can still be causing symptoms after five years, and in the long run, can cause
secondary problems such as osteoarthritis.
Hyperextension of the neck upon impact results in a number of capillaries and tissue fibers being broken, which, if
left alone, can cause scar tissue development.
In many cases, abnormalities cannot be viewed upon x-ray and there is
no visible injury. As a result, the seriousness of an injury
is often initially overlooked.
Fortunately, most whiplash injury is not severe enough to kill. However, if left untreated, it
can lead to chronic pains, which can be difficult to treat later.
This delay in symptoms and the long term consequences make it very
important to get examined after an accident.

What should I do if I am involved in an automobile
accident?
There are a few basic guidelines that you should follow at the time of
the accident.
Do not leave the scene of the accident until a police officer
arrives.
Get all information from the driver of the other
car.
Ask the officer where and when you can pick up a copy of the accident
report.
Call our office at 688-8830 and schedule an
appointment.
What if I am not feeling any pain after the
accident? Sometimes symptoms
aren't felt until days, weeks or months after the accident. When they do appear they may start as sore and
tight neck and lower back muscles. Symptoms often get worse over time with a greater chance of
re-injury.
What is Whiplash? When a sudden accident or injury hurls your head backward and forward, your neck gets thrown
out of balance. The force can damage parts of your neck and reverse its natural curve. This may even cause pain
in your shoulders, arms, hands and low back.
Can your office help me? Dr. Brian N. Hardy is a whiplash expert. He has been trained to treat the underlying cause of
your problem. (Traditional medicine treats the symptom not the cause.)
He will look at your overall health - not only on your neck, but also on your
lifestyle.
This integrated approach helps determine the best treatment for your
whiplash.
What about automobile insurance coverage? Our Office will assist you in filing all the
appropriate forms to the claims adjuster within the guidelines set by our State Insurance Regulatory
Department.
Dr. Hardy can treat patients without a
referral from a Medical
Doctor.
If you are in a car accident and your adjuster or someone
else tells you differently please have them call our
